Vestas achieves 1 GW milestone of wind turbines installed in Japan

SINGAPORE, June 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Vestas has achieved 1 GW of installed wind turbine capacity in Japan. Vestas started its business in Japan as Micon A/S* in 1991. Our first turbine in Japan was one M300-100KW installed in the Mattou Wind Farm in Ishikawa prefecture in 1993. Since then, we have continued to expand our footprint, reaching 1,145 MW (1.1 GW) of turbines installed as of May 24, 2023.

Also in Japan, we provide services to a total of 794 MW. Our service technicians stationed at 15 site offices support the efficient operations of turbines in all over Japan. In addition, there are a total of 460 MW currently under construction, and we will provide operation and maintenance services for many of them once they become operational.

Netoshi Kuriyama, Representative Director and Country Manager of Vestas Japan, said, "We are very pleased to have achieved the 1 GW milestone of installed wind turbine capacity in Japan. We would like to thank our customers for their appreciation of our products and services and for continuing choosing us as their partner for their wind energy projects.

The introduction of wind energy has been accelerating for the aim of realizing decarbonized society. In 2022, Vestas installed 231 MW of onshore and 84 MW of offshore wind turbines in Japan. We remain committed to the Japanese market and will actively contribute to achieve Japan's decarbonization target through collaboration with our stakeholders, including customers, partners, governments, and local communities."

*Micon A/S was merged with Vestas in 2004.
