Featuring "Bring Security to" as its theme, the international cybersecurity event gathers over 200 experts and 300 companies at home and abroad to show considerable cybersecurity prowess.
TAIPEI, May 9, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- CYBERSEC 2023, organized by iThome for the 9th year, kicked off at Nangang International Exhibition Center in Taipei today, which is expected to attract the participation of 18,000 cybersecurity professionals, several heavyweights, and well-known companies at home and abroad from May 9 to 11 with unprecedented scale as international exchange resumes after the pandemic.
CYBERSEC is not only an annual event that cybersecurity professionals cannot miss but also an event whose profile has been raised in the international community over the years, said Ann Gu, Managing Director of iThome and founder of CYBERSEC. World renowned cybersecurity experts have been invited to CYBERSEC, including Bruce Schneier, the widely acclaimed cybersecurity guru. As international exchange resumes after the pandemic, a record-breaking number of world renowned cybersecurity leaders and experts have been invited to CYBERSEC 2023, including former Secretary of Homeland Security and Founder of the Berkeley Center for Security in Politics Janet Napolitano, Sr. Director of Google's Threat Analysis Group (TAG) Shane Huntley, creator of the Cyber Defense Matrix Sounil Yu, Trend Micro Chief Technology Strategy Officer David Chow, and Fortinet Chief Security Strategist Derek Manky.
According to Gu, CYBERSEC has become increasingly significant in the past nine years since its inception as more importance has been attached to cybersecurity. The incredible resilience at all levels nationwide in recent years has allowed CYBERSEC to take place during the pandemic and develop into a world-class large-scale cybersecurity conference and exhibition. Gu pointed out that the scale of this year's expo has grown by 30% compared with last year, with 18,000 participants signing up and over 300 companies participating, which take up nearly 900 booths. In addition, 15-parallel sessions have been planned every day during the three-day event, where over 200 cybersecurity experts at home and abroad have been invited to share their views.
President Tsai Ing-wen attended the opening ceremony along with high-level ministers and officials, including Secretary-General to the President Lin Chia-lung, Secretary-General of National Security Council Wellington Koo, Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan, Minister of National Science and Technology Council Wu Tsung-tsong, Minister of Digital Affairs (moda) Audrey Tang, and Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua. Gu extended her gratitude to President Tsai for attending CYBERSEC five years in a row, which not only gives a boost to the cybersecurity industry but also shows that cybersecurity is national security. She also expressed thanks to American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Acting Director Jeremy Cornforth and the foreign representatives in Taiwan for their attendance, making CYBERSEC 2023 the best platform for international exchange.
CYBERSEC 2023 features "Bring Security to" as its theme. Merton Wu, Chief Editor of iThome and Chairman of CYBERSEC, said that as digitization accelerates worldwide, cybersecurity threats are ubiquitous—in chips, codes, and where connectivity exists. Rampant ransomware, mis- and disinformation and fraud, innumerable software vulnerabilities, frequent infrastructure attacks, and even the cyberwar triggered by Ukraine-Russia War are a wake-up call. If a democratic, free, peaceful, and sustainable future is what we aim to pursue, cybersecurity should be high on the agenda in all sectors, making it the DNA of corporations and people's lives, to ensure a safe and secure future.
